Outdoor Activities around Rosehill Guest House
Walking
Highland Perthshire is a walker's paradise amidst scenery to die for, with some of the finest mountains, lowland trails, unspoilt roads and paths, mixed walking and designated routes in the British Isles. A wealth of walks for walkers of all abilities, from easy low-level walks and strolls to more difficult mountain scrambles - from a few hours' rambling and gentle walking, to veritable expeditions. Without doubt the best way to enjoy Highland Perthshire and the Pitlochry area in particular is on foot and part of the appeal of walking here is the diversity of the seasons. Each has something different to offer as indeed does every day.
There are walks to suit everyone, from a one-hour stroll with the kids to a multi-day trek through some of the last wilderness areas of Europe. At all times of the year, some of the most glorious scenery in Scotland can best be enjoyed during one of the many planned walks in the Pitlochry area.

Golf
With over 40 lovely golf courses in Perthshire offering public access, there is a style and standard of course to suit everyone. Parkland or Heath, simple 9 hole to inspiring 18, beginner's level or championship, lady or gentleman, you'll find it in Perthshire, and notably around Pitlochry, which offers a choice of ten superb courses within easy reach to test even the most ardent golfer, including a very fine local course, a highland gem at Taymouth Castle, and a stunning international class test at Blairgowrie.
Mix excellent golf with some great fishing or shooting which we can arrange - or perhaps a distillery tour. And Carnoustie, St Andrews and Gleneagles are all around an hour's drive away.
The green fees will also surprise you here with their modesty. Most courses offer day and round tickets. Numerous great value concession tickets are available for use across a number of fine courses throughout Perthshire.

Shooting
Many types of shooting, stalking and hunting are available in the immediate area and the hotel can help put together a great package for an individual or a group. Do enquire in advance as while you can shoot something in Scotland 365 days a year, some opportunities are seasonal, you may require to observe certain formalities especially if you are bringing guns from overseas, and as we work with local agents plenty of notice is desirable so that you will not be disappointed. In some cases a minimum number of participants is required.
Choose from first class bird shooting with driven pheasant and grouse, rough shooting, woodcock and some unbelievable goose shooting. There is also deer stalking for red, roe, sika and fallow deer together with a wealth of other sporting activities you can combine such as golf, fishing, hill walking and Munro climbing.

Fishing
Perthshire is one of the world's most famous areas for Salmon fishing with the 119 mile River Tay dominating the county. But Highland Perthshire has much more to offer the angler. From salmon fishing to sea trout and brown trout to rainbow trout, not forgetting coarse fishing for grayling, pike, perch and roach - all the fishing which makes Scotland and this area world famous - challenging fishing set amid stunning scenery. Rivers, lochs and fisheries, Perthshire has it all! And all types of fishing are widely available and affordable in Perthshire. And tackle shops, fishing agents, and countrywear department stores are all available locally.
Fish without hassle at a number of fish farms throughout Perthshire. These offer good sport for beginners as well as the experienced fisher, and equipment can be hired at several venues. Some will even provide free lessons to get you started!
The sheer number of local angling waters makes it impossible for us to list them all here. Ask us for the information you need on waters, catch, permit outlets and costs to help you plan. We can suggest suitable waters and can ensure the perfect place to relax at the end of the day!

Pony Trekking
The Pony trekking centre is located in the beautiful surroundings of Blair Castle and Atholl Estate. Highland ponies have been used on Atholl Estates for many years. The Dukes of Atholl took a great interest in breeding the ponies on the Estate, and a high quality herd has been developed and maintained.
The Centre offers treks and hacks to suit all abilities, and complete beginners are welcome.
Two hour treks and hacks are offered, as well as day rides. Other durations can usually be arranged to suit. Bookings can be made for individuals, or for groups of up to eight people. Keeping the parties small ensures that the ride leaders can give their attention to everyone, and to ensure all rides are both fun and safe.
Treks
Treks are taken at a leisurely pace. They are an ideal way to see the scenery and look out for the abundance of wildlife that can be seen on this marvellous estate. Treks are ideal for beginners or those who simply wish to amble along.
Hacks
Hacks are for more experienced, competent riders. They give the opportunity to trot and canter through woodland and open fields, and allow riders to see some of the fences on the famous International cross-country course built here at Blair Castle.
Day Rides
Day rides can be arranged from May, enabling visitors to travel well in to the Atholl hills. Day rides are for experienced riders only, and run with a minimum of 2 people.
Children must be 12 years old or over to go on a trek or hack, unless they are experienced, regular riders. Whilst the Highlands are generally steady and laid-back, they can be very strong and therefore too much for younger children to handle.
Watersports
With two great local providers, Freespirits and Splash, set your spirit of adventure free with one of our white water rafting excursions or take up the challenge of canyoning, cliff jumping, abseiling and mountain biking.
River running is virtually as old as civilization itself, but rafting and kayaking as recreational activities are relatively new. A river journey is one of the most enjoyable ways to experience the rural areas and natural environments of any country. These pleasures are complimented by an even greater thrill; running through powerful, fast flowing rapids.
